0 4. Pick up Room Keys 0

At the check-in table, you'll receive your room and outside door keys and a "Property and Room Condition Report." Be sure to fill out this form and turn it in to your RA within 24-hours of moving in. Students must check themselves in and sign for their own keys.

0 5. Move-in 0

It may be helpful to bring a handtruck or dolly to move into the halls. Barnhart, Carson, LLC, and Riley are the only halls with elevators (which get really busy during move-in), so remember:

  • pack light boxes
  • use the stairs when possible and
  • wear cool, comfortable clothing.

Individuals checking in to the residence halls can be easy targets for thieves.

Do not leave your valuables unattended or your doors unlocked.

Freebies at Freddy's
September 26 from 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
Forget to bring something from home? Hop on the shuttle for a night of fun and great shopping at the local Fred Meyer store. Freddy's will be opening its doors after hours for a night of games, give-aways, and special discounts. Shuttles will leave from 15th avenue in front of the LLC, and Barnhart starting at 10:45 p.m. Don't forget your UO student ID.

0 6. Mail Box Key 0

Go to your area desk to pick up your mailbox key, check your mail and get your welcome gift! Barnhart and Hamilton area desks are typically open from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. throughout the academic year. The Living-Learning Center area desk is open 24 hours a day. Area desks handle:

  • room changes
  • check-outs
  • temporary key loans
  • room repair requests
  • linen/phone check-out
  • sporting gear and movie loans and
  • mail distribution.
0 7. Phone Set Up 0

Long distance, voice messaging, and call waiting may be requested on-line through University of Oregon Telecommunications Services. Each room comes with one active phone line and free local calling. Roommates will be able to purchase multiple long distance accounts, but there can be only one voice messaging account per phone line. Roommates can decide who will purchase those services and then split the cost between them. It is possible to purchase a second phone line. For more information, call Telecommunications at (541) 346-3198.

Your phone number can be found in your room on the inside of your vanity/closet door.

0 8. Identification Card 0

You'll need to get your UO Identification Card before the end of the day. The photo ID office is inside the Erb Memorial Union (EMU) and will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. You use your UO ID to:

0 9. Register Your Bike 0

As on most campuses across the nation, bicycle theft is a big problem. We suggest you bring a used or inexpensive bike, along with a Kryptonite¨ U-shaped lock. You are required to register your bike with the Department of Public Safety upon arrival to campus. If DPS has recovered a stolen bike, the registration will help DPS return it to its rightful owner. Make sure you write down the serial number for your bike, so it may be identified.

Bikes that are parked at the bike racks and not registered will be impounded. The Department of Public Safety (DPS) will be providing bike registrations throughout check-in at various locations on campus. Please check your Week of Welcome schedule, call (541) 346-5444, or stop by DPS in Straub Hall for times and locations.

Do not leave your bike unattended or unlocked while you are moving in.
0 10. Get Hooked Up (Internet Access, Cable) 0
Internet Access

An ethernet connection, which provides free Internet that won't tie up the telephone line, is one of the residence halls' most popular amenities. To connect, we recommend a Macintosh with OS9 or higher or a PC running Windows XP or VISTA. You also need an ethernet card and a CAT5 ethernet cable. If you do not already have them, an ethernet card can be purchased at the ResNet Office. CAT5 cables can be purchased for $8–$12 depending on length. Wireless Internet connections are available throughout all of the LLC and Bean, and in most residence hall lounges and study rooms, as well as in Hamilton Commons. Please visit geography.uoregon.edu/infographics/wireless/index .html for a current map of wireless coverage on campus. You'll find assistance at the ResNet Office in the Walton Complex on weekdays. For more information, please contact the ResNet Office at (541) 346-4223 or online at housing.uoregon.edu/ resnet/.

Cable TV and Phone

All residence hall rooms receive telephone service, access to the Internet, and cable television through the wall-mounted box in each room. Once plugged in, you’ll have access to free local calling and more than sixty cable channels including Comedy Central, A&E, The Learning Channel, MTV, CNN, ESPN, VH1, and many more!

Long distance, voice messaging, and call waiting information may be found at the area desks, or students can sign-up online at telcom.uoregon.edu/Residence-Hall.htm. Each room comes with one active phone line and free local calling. You can check-out a phone for the year at the area desks. Roommates will be able to purchase multiple long distance accounts, but there can be only one voice messaging account per phone line. Roommates will have to decide who will purchase those services and then split the cost among themselves. It is possible to purchase a second phone line. For more information, call Telecommunications at (541) 346-3198, or check out their website at telcom.uoregon.edu.
